Today we dance 🪩! It is almost impossible to believe, but this weightless dancer is made of marble. Dancing the "Tarantella" (a folk dance originating from southern Italy) she turns on one leg around her own axis. In her raised hands she holds the cymbal, her carefully coiffed head tilted to the side. A special feature is the marble base, originally this could actually be rotated! The creator of this impressive marble sculpture is Antonio Canova, who died #onthisday in 1822. // Heute wird getanzt 🪩! Die „Tarantella“ (ein aus Süditalien stammender Volkstanz) tanzend, dreht sie sich auf einem Bein um die eigene Achse. In den erhobenen Händen hält sie die Zimbel, den sorgfältig frisierten Kopf zur Seite geneigt. Eine Besonderheit ist der Marmorsockel, dieser konnte ursprünglich tatsächlich gedreht werden!
