@patrickwitty is a Tulsa-based photographer and former photo editor for esteemed publications such as The New York Times, TIME, WIRED, and National Geographic. His photography captures the diverse experiences of individuals from various backgrounds, each with their unique story. From documenting the challenges of those facing life's toughest battles, like refugees seeking safety, the aftermath of 9/11, and Haitians living in exile in the Dominican Republic - to exploring uniquely human quirks (like sharing the name of famous presidents) - to capturing the tediousness of a daily commute, Witty's images offer a poignant glimpse into the human experience, highlighting the relevance of both the mundane and the extraordinary. His most recent body of work, Subway Riders (last slide), is now available as a Drop. The project is heavily inspired by Walker Evans’ book, “Many Are Called.” Evans says, of making photographs on the subway, “The guard is down and the mask is off: even more than when in lone bedrooms. People's faces are in naked repose in the subway.” The photographic typology is a collection of 25 photos taken between 2013 and 2022 on the New York City Subway. A reflection of the beauty, diversity, and individuality of New York City, as well as a commentary on consciousness and getting lost in technology.
