I would sit in my car and shed a few sad girl tears after going to the gym last year after recovering from my second ACL reconstruction. Some weeks were so mentally challenging & I wondered if I would ever feel normal again post acl and meniscus surgery- and let me tell you, it gets betterrr!!
The bad days are the reminder to keep moving.
I really focused on these things to help it not feel as dark and still find ways to stay motivated
1) I followed a strength training program and still do, I hired a coach and basically said take my money to get me out of pain and accountable to not give up! She helped me with my form and also helped me learn how to prep my body for movement instead of just diving into strength training sessions. Annoying at times, but she helped me slow down and learn how to use my body!
2) EATING ENOUGH FOOD TO ACTUALLY BUILD MORE MUSCLE- I gained 12 lbs from May until now just from learning to fuel my body to sustain my activity level and actually be able to put on muscle! It has been hard but I very grateful that I actually let myself eat, I always feel full of energy!
3) rest. Time. Patience. Do not give up on your hard weeks. This is alllll going to happen but with time and with rest. Please be kind to yourself!
๐๐ผ hope this inspires you to take care of your body regardless of the caliber of injury itโs incredibly challenging on your mental health and I fully advocate for you to have some accountability!
