Stop by for some nourishing food, cider and a great opportunity to support local artists and makers on Small Business Saturday. Find unique holiday gifts and meet the makers! Here’s a brief introduction to a few of the makers (listed in order of the imagery): 1. Erika Harada is an artist from Bremerton, WA with a focus on katazome, a traditional Japanese textile printing process which involves the dyeing of fabrics or paper by laying down rice paste as a resist, using handcut stencils. She utilizes mineral pigments and botanical dyes, using locally sourced materials and focusing on reducing waste and plastics. 2. Jeff Horwath of Center Valley Pottery makes soda-fired functional pottery. The addition of soda ash into the kiln creates soft oranges that accentuate the curves and contours of the forms. 3. James & Yulia make these handmade wooden veneer “mood lamps” that glow like giant beeswax candles and use only 4 watts of LED light. Made from very thin wood, the light shines thru to show the beauty of the wood as well as add a pleasing ambiance to any space. We have some of these in our Cider Porch! 4. Kira Mardikes is a multidisciplinary artist and farmer living in Chimacum, Washington. She grows dyes and herbs which she uses to craft teas and botanically dyed bandanas and textiles. All of her work engages ecological topics such as bee-friendly practices, forestry management, plant medicine, botanical dying and local agriculture. 5. Felted fleeces are made with locally sheared wool, topped with layers of roving (processed wool) and then wet felted by hand to bind the whole thing together. The result is like a sheepskin rug but without the skin!
