We're featuring the top five winners of the #CAStateParks "Fall in Love with Fall" photo contest this week. Today's winner comes from Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park. 📸 Photo title: “Pe-tān’-yah” 🍁 What makes this a “Fall in Love with Fall” photo: “If there is one creature that is ubiquitously present and often disregarded throughout State Parks, it is the humble little “blue belly”. But this little lizard has such a profound effect on children who visit parks and see these reptiles scurrying about and doing “push-ups” on a warm rock or fence. It is a somewhat universal experience we share with children, that we grow up and forget. These experiences are something that when we take a moment to slow down and let our youthful wonder capture us again, the often overlooked can become profound once again. The Hookooeko of Nicasio and Tomales Bay say: Pe-tān'-yah the Lizard with blue sides lives everywhere in the rocks and hills and woods. When he hears a loud noise he talks back. This is Si-yu-kā-i the Echo; it is Pe-tān'-yah talking back.(The Dawn of the World, p. 224).” 📸 Date taken: Sept. 30, 2022 📸 Photo By: Michael Hopper, Central Valley District. Hopper is a park aide and has been with the department since June 2022. #FallPhotoContest #TopFive #WildlifeWednesday 🦎 @castateparkscentral
