You know what I’m SO tired of? Brands and stylists that feel the need to tear someone down to build themselves or their method up.
This is so prevalent in the culture of this industry. In order to prove that you are the best, you have to completely trash any one and everything that is different than you. This is the marketing strategy that so many methods teach to stylists AND clients! “This method is the absolute best and any other is garbage and wrong.”
I say this first hand because I used to be that stylist. I was taught that in order to promote my methods and prove myself as a specialist, I had to shit all over every other method and any stylist that didn’t offer the same method I did. I was in extension groups where every other post would be tearing apart another stylists work or trashing other methods. It was incredibly toxic.
Taking it a step further, as a stylist you become trapped to your method. In this industry, things are always evolving. Once a new method is developed and introduced, you are afraid to explore that option because your entire platform has been dedicated to one method and one method only. You fear the backlash - you don’t want to become the target of a shaming post. And take it from me, you will be 🙃
Something I have finally learned after my years of experience in the extension world - If your work or your method is truly great, it should speak for itself.. without having to compare or belittle anyone else.
Stylists: if you are researching a new extension method to invest in, keep this in mind! The focus of your extension certification should be on education and the science behind the method. You are the professional and you are the prize - not the method that you offer.
Let’s raise the standard. You don’t have to be a part of the mean girls club to be great. Can I get an amen or can I get an amen! 🙌🏼
