How to nail your reception details.... Photographing reception details might seem easy since they’re a still life and it doesn’t require any posing, but there’s actually a TON of artistry that goes into it that can take your work to the next level! You don’t have to be shooting six-figure weddings to make your weddings look like a million bucks! As a photographer, you can make any wedding look like a luxury wedding when you photograph it well. Here are my top 10 tips for shooting reception details: 1) Find the hero angle of the space 2) Avoid attractive nuisances like heat lamps, garbage bins, bags on chairs, waiter stands, etc. 3) Don’t be afraid to move things around (like bringing flowers closer) to nail the single place setting shot! 4) Move in close! Create extra detail shots by zooming in on tiny details like the menu, place cards, a centerpiece, bar florals or sign, etc. 5) Start small and go big. A lot of times I’ll shoot the single place setting while the room is still being set up around me so I can utilize every minute possible. 6) Make sure the flatware is all straight (no one likes a crooked fork)!! 7) Try to shoot details before water is poured so there’s no condensation on the glasses. 8) Zoom in on the cake to create extra detail images like the flowers, topper, or knives. 9) For a cleaner background, use the cake tablecloth (or a styling surface) as a backdrop for an editorial cake detail. 10) Bring the couple in for a room reveal and get fun photos of them seeing the reception space for the first time! Have them practice their first dance, which makes for super cute photos! #rypbehindtheframe More from this gorgeous day with @emilycoyneevents @loopflowers @aerialistpress coming soon!
