Link to full film in profile. 5 years ago we set out to make a short that raised awareness of the crimes being committed against queer individuals in Chechnya ( a region of Russia). Members of the LGBTQI+ community there were being taken from their homes and tortured, beaten and even killed, sometimes by their own families at the encouragement of the government. We set it in rural America to help bridge the gap between the English speaking world and Russia, hoping the viewers would be able to connect and see the possibility of this happening in their own communities. Sadly, it's still going on 5 years later. What's even more shocking is that we've begun to pass legislation in the United States that mirrors the laws used to justify and protect these violent acts in Chechnya.
If you would like to do something to help, there is a charity called the NC SOS Crisis Group that helps protects LGBTIQ+ individuals and their families who are in danger in the North Caucasus region. You can follow them @sksosorg for more information on what they do and how to donate.
