The price of menstrual products, like tampons, pads, and liners, in CVS stores has been reduced by 25%. The chain said it is also covering the sales tax on period products (a.k.a. the ‘pink tax‘ or ‘tampon tax’) in the 12 states where the tax still exists, including Georgia, Hawaii, South Carolina, and Texas. Period poverty, or the lack of access to menstrual hygiene, facilities, and education, affects an estimated 500 million people worldwide. In the U.S. alone, it affects 1 in 10 college students. Menstrual products can cost a person in the U.S. approx $2k in their lifetime, according to HuffPost. ‘Women experience conditions that are unique to their physiology and life stage, as well as those that are more common in, expressed in, and treated differently for women of all ages,’ a CVS spokesperson said in a statement. ‘Women also face serious health care gaps, from systemic barriers created by high health care costs and access issues to health challenges related to a greater risk of chronic conditions.’ #cvs #period #periodproducts #pinktax #menstration #tampons
