(Note: At the time of this headlining performance from Jay, his beef with Nasir Jones had been gradually escalating so in an obvious and rather successful attempt at flexing his music muscle and solidifying his position in music, Jay made a call to the King Of Pop himself. In an early portion of his set, Jay vaguely addressed the situation by saying “There’s a lot of sh*t going on in rap music. A lot of cats yappin [but] y’all know what I do—your boy handles his business;” afterward he performed the ‘Takeover’ freestyle. As he closed his set with ‘Izzo’ which samples Jackson 5, Jay had a ‘little’ surprise for the audience. He announced it by saying “I know Michael Jackson better come from behind that motherf*ckin curtain!” After waiting about a minute, Hov asked the crowd “You want me to go back and get him myself? Okay, I’mma go get him.” Once the two re-emerged from backstage, Mike struck a pose and said only a few words “I love you all!” before exiting the stage to the ‘Izzo’ instrumental. According to Memphis Bleek, Michael had it in place that anyone unauthorized to meet him had to stand facing the wall as he walked through the backstage area but Hov, of course, made sure his Roc-A-Fella crew got the chance to meet the Icon.
