So happy to announce the launch of a new tape series on Club Romantico today 📼!!! The concept of the new series is to highlight the legends of Latin American variants of club music while also highlighting more contemporary artists side by side. For every legend, we’ll also follow up with the release of a more contemporary artists mix in an effort to connect the dots, shining light on genres & artists that deserve nothing but love & appreciation 🫶🏻 For the 1st edition I approached the Raptor House godfather @djbabatr . Baba pioneered an unfiltered & uncompromising form of Venezuelan electronic club music, the first of its kind in fact, making him a legend in his own right. I became aware of Raptor House as a genre via an old Bazzerk compilation many moons ago 🌘. I quickly became obsessed with figuring out the figures of the scene & delving into the style. Unsurprisingly the sound + style feels very relevant to what’s happening now in club music & in lockdown I started revisiting a lot of the material I’d collected over the years. At the end of that process I became transfixed on contacting Baba somehow. Which is how we got here! 🦖 It’s an absolute honour to launch the series with an 100% production mix from Baba himself, his production style is nothing short of undeniably frenetic dance music. You can really see how this music blew peoples minds & influenced/continues to influence artists far beyond its birth place.
