I made this 4 years ago - but since trolls wanna argue with me in comment section about the slave trade in the UK today - Here we you are - a all round learning moment
The tomb of Rasselas Belfield stands near the edge of the churchyard of St Martin, Bowness on Windermere
According to W. Sayer's 'History of Westmorland', written in 1847, the young man commemorated by this headstone was brought to England by a Major Taylor, who had bought him as a child from his mother for the equivalent of about £5.
This story a interesting case because of the quality of his headstone and where it lays.
I remember when I first dropped this @purpleferdinand Told me her mum said - “ Your ancestors are calling you there that’s why you love it so much - keep going “
And I think she was right. I’ve found more stories and I’m gonna tell them all.
Look into the UK slave trade, look in to what used to be Liverpool’s biggest import, ask yourself why does everyone else have a Independence Day and who are they celebrating independence from 👀🤷🏾♀️ #blacklivesmatter #ukcurriculum #receiptsforyears
