We haven’t always been hanging the Pride flag and dropping rainbows in our pictures. It seemed kind of silly that there’s a flag to show acceptance of people. Shouldn’t this be a given foundation of human psychology and behavior?
Alejandra and I faced challenges when we were young, “in the closet”, and coming out to our families. That being said, we were príveledged to have accepting friends and family.
However, in the last 2 years of having this account, we have made ourselves extra vulnerable and put our lives out there to the public. As a result we have seen & experienced judgement, homophobia, discrimination and hate. Every encounter we have with this type of behavior drives us to keep going, shout a little louder, hang our flags with pride and bring the rainbows!
For the people who are scared or feel unsafe to come out, don’t have the support system, have lost close ones for coming out, know that you are loved and accepted by a community larger than you think.
Community: There’s is so much work to be done. So this Pride month, regardless of your orientation or gender, we ask that you post about Pride. Let others know that you are part of the accepting community who embraces diversity (and tag us when you do!).
Happy pride 🏳️🌈
