Y’all, it finally happened. Last night, after almost seven months on tour, I FINALLY got to go to prom with my swing sis, @lexie.plath. I know, I know. You may not believe it, considering how much she and I swing into @theprommusical (usually in multiple tracks at once because #swinglife), but it’s the truth. She and I have NEVER partnered together at one of the proms in our show until LAST NIGHT 😱 • This contract was both of our first times swinging and to say we were both scared sh!tless would be quite an understatement. But, from day one, we had each other’s backs. • We would stand in the back right corner of the rehearsal room, learning the dances while barely being able to see the choreography, and cackle at the fact that we were each learning 8 different versions of the same show. We would correct each other and fill in each other’s mental gaps when the other was starting to get burnt out that day. We would call each other at 10:00 PM every night while we were charting all of our tracks, each of us with a glass of wine in hand, wondering what garbage food we were each going to Seamless that night (Indian and Dominos were common orders for both of us). • And, even now, we still keep each other going. FYI: swinging isn’t a perfect science, folks. Sometimes things go wrong. Sometimes you go the wrong way in a formation. Sometimes you’re facing the wrong way as everyone else. Sometimes your partners are less than cordial when things don’t go as smoothly as usual. But every time one of us starts to get down on ourselves, the other is quick to remind the other of our swing motto: “Nobody died and the show went on. So we did our jobs.” • Last night, right before the big dance break in “Tonight Belongs to You”, I ran into the wings, gave Lexie the biggest hug, and looked her in the eyes with the dopiest smile you’ve EVER seen. This was the first number she and I learned together and, honestly, I’ve been looking forward to dancing this one with her since day one. Y’all might be wondering why I was so giddy and why this is such a big deal to me and the simple truth is this: I straight up admire this girl. (CONTINUED IN THE COMMENTS)
