I was blessed to bag some miles and spend time in Oregon this weekend with a bunch of close friends 🫂 🦬 Portland, Oregon, was named after Portland, Maine, after a coin toss in 1845 between founders Asa Lovejoy (who wanted to name it after his hometown of Boston) and Francis Pettygrove (who favored Portland, Maine). Pettygrove won the “best two out of three” coin toss and the naming rights, leading to the city being named Portland. The Portland Penny is now on display at the Oregon Historical Society.
