What is there to say about this woman... So many things. Some words that come to mind: resilient. tenacious. intentional. revolutionary. visionary. If you know her, you know how much of her life force she has poured into ensuring Black and Brown people have spaces to heal and reclaim + remember + celebrate their power while co-creating new futures together. It really is an artful dance to exist as a Black woman leader amongst leaders, to find your place, to play your contributive part, to move courageously forward while trying not to piss people off or trigger their wounding, to mess up sometimes, to do better other times, to be sensitive and fierce AF, to stay as inclusive as possible while holding healthy boundaries. To keep God first while managing the expectations, needs, doubts and dreams of community members. I can say with my full-chest that Shelley’s dance has been an inspiring dance to witness.
