Virtually all of us know someone who has suffered from or lost their lives to cancer. I lost my grandpa to lung cancer, my grandma to blood cancer, and last year just two weeks before my election, my mom was diagnosed with stomach cancer and had to have surgery to get a tumor removed. So the fact that Bristol Myers Squibb — a global biopharmaceutical company whose mission it is to develop and deliver lifesaving cancer treatment — is expanding their facility in District 7 is deeply personal to me. Phoenix competed globally for this expansion, and we won due to our highly skilled workforce in this field, our reputation as a global hub for biosciences thanks to our colleges and universities, and our city’s commitment to innovation. This expansion will bring 150 highly-skilled, high-wage jobs to the I-10 West corridor. With this historic investment, I’m hopeful that cancer will be cured in Phoenix, specifically in District 7.
