For many West African brides, the most important ceremony is the traditional engagement where the Groom and his family come to ask for her hand in marriage. This is called the Knocking.
We did both the knocking ceremony and the official engagement ceremony, which makes us officially husband and wife, together on the Thursday before our white wedding.
Instead of wearing the typical body-con look most Ghanaian brides go for, I opted for a fancy cape made of a custom woven Kente cloth for the engagement. For the knocking ceremony, T and I wore the custom kente with the traditional adinkra jewelry.
My friend @rickydavii was kind enough to create a rendition of the traditional headpiece called the Tekua for me.
I designed the outfits for our entire wedding party, which was then hand made in Ghana by @e.a.dmaven in Accra. She has the magic hands.
Coming this week is a full recap of our Ghanaian ceremony. Until then, enjoy this short clip.
