posting all of my basses that i like to use in the studio for all the gear freaks on a tuesday endless scroll✨✨
1963 fender p bass - honestly haven’t recorded much with this yet but it’s juicy buttery midrange is motown heaven. used to belong to willie nelson’s bassist.
1966 fender mustang bass - a dear & faithful companion. used to be the bass i’d bring out on tour til they got wildly expensive on the resale market. ancient roundwounds. wildly thumpy and can get aggressive.
1966 guild starfire I - more dynamic and big than a hofner. a joy to play with its twack. an absolute favorite to countermelody on.
1967 hofner 500/1 - this is a players basket case with a 50s electronic plate and a stripped finish but is more resonant, stable & in tune than so many of these which often feel like toys. teeny tiny neck.
1961 supro pocket bass - guitar scale and one of the biggest sounding basses around. this thing gets used crazy often to add subtle low end and moment to acoustic tracks. sounds more like an upright than any electric bass i’ve ever played. freaky freaky piezo pickup built into the bridge.
it’s been fun to build up this collection over 20 yrs where there isn’t too much overlap and everything serves it own unique purpose. I started playing bass at age 9 and it’s still as exciting as ever🙇🏻♂️
