Pride isn’t just rainbows and parades. To this day, the LGBTQ community faces disproportionate rates of discrimination and violence. This year alone, at least 17 transgender and non-binary people have been murdered, the majority being trans people of color. 30 states have introduced legislation targeting trans youth - at least two states have passed laws banning trans youth from accessing life-saving healthcare. LGBTQ youth are 120% more likely to experience homelessness. In a national study, 40% of transgender adults reported having made a suicide attempt. 92% of these individuals reported having attempted suicide before the age of 25. We are, unfortunately, still a very long ways from equality. So, as you’re gearing up to release merchandise in celebration of Pride month, we’re asking you: please don’t capitalize on a marginalized community. If you support the LGBTQ community, put your money where your mouth is: support us by donating to non-profits serving LGBTQ people.
