Today is the 1st time in 40 years that my dad wasn’t there to kiss my mom on their wedding anniversary. I was lucky enough to be standing right there on their wedding day in my Aunt Mo’s living room. I saw that first kiss. I can still see it. A Chicago cop meets a waitress at a Southside Jazz Club and they fall in love. They soon raised a family of five on pork chops, the White Sox and a couple of Our Fathers and Hail Marys. It never looked like a love story or a fairytale - but now I know - the good ones never do. They just look like Barb & Mike. Who ended every night, with either a sign of love or a sign of forgiveness, maybe a story about some ‘some jag off’ or a joke about one of us - but no matter what, they ended each night, with a kiss.
