It’s always a surreal experience for me to visit my hometown.
The same restaurants, the same shopping malls, the same houses, the same mountains where my little feet used to wander. The meals, the laughs, the tears, the small acts of rebellion still echoing as a memory decades later.
It all makes me think of the many forks in my life that brought me from a desert child with big dreams, to a city girl trying to find her way, to a Bali baby who has never felt more aligned with where she’s supposed to be.
At the end of the day, it’s really quite simple — it comes down to one decision to follow my gut versus following what was “expected” or “normal.”
The decision to move across the country at 17. The decision to spend summers and winters traveling overseas. The decision to leave a toxic marriage. The decision to put my law degree in storage and find a path that actually felt fulfilling and aligned. The decision to keep trying after countless failures, mistakes, and rejection.
Sure, there were many decisions that led me to where I am now. But what matters is the one, next decision sitting right in front of you.
Think of the ripple effect that one decision can make. Think of where it could lead you a year from now; 5 years from now; 20 years from now.
Wouldn’t it be worth it?
