Please check out this critically important resource on understanding why calling for the state to ramp up their response to white supremacist activity under the umbrella of “terrorism” ultimately harms organizing on the left. We should not be giving the state more tools and license to act with impunity against those who *they* determine to be terrorists. Our calls for justice, redress, repair, and equity will always run counter to the state’s vested interest in maintaining racial capitalism and oppressive systems that permit the wholesale exploitation of the working class, including incarcerated workers. We must remember that those who would make determinations about terrorism do not share our communities’ values or goals—they long for the continuation of racist and white supremacist institutions. We must not give them purchase to further infringe on the rights of organizers and advocates.

Why Treating White Supremacy as Domestic Terrorism Won ’t Work and How to Not Fall for It
BY NICOLE NGUYEN & YAZAN ZAHZAH
To challenge white supremacy in more meaningful ways, we must:
Reject the government’s attempt to co-opt our righteous rage against white supremacy;
Refuse frameworks that define white supremacist violence as exceptional “extremism” or “domestic terrorism” as these narratives reinforce anti-Muslim, anti-Black, and anti-immigrant antiterrorism initiatives and policing practices;
Agitate against domestic terrorism legislation, which is one way we can challenge structural white supremacy;
Name how white supremacist violence is a manifestation of this country’s ideologies when speaking out against the individual actions of white supremacists;
Monitor the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and other national security agencies when they create programming in your locale and prepare actionable responses with related community organizations;
and Engage in political study to learn how others have fought white supremacist violence without relying on the police, such as the John Brown Anti-Klan Committee.
