Good Friday or Viernes Santo in Antigua is amazing. Carpets made out of sawdust and flowers line the streets where each church's procession will take place. No one is allowed to walk on these carpets except for the people carrying Jesus and Mary (Mary follows Jesus in the procession and is the only float carried by all women). It is an honor to carry one of these massive floats that are seen rocking from side to side on the streets to help manage the weight. Tens of thousands of people from all over the country and the world visit Antigua to witness these beautiful processions. The entire city is draped in purple, and everyone involved is dressed the same, until the hour of Jesus' death, at which time the entire city and everyone in the procession change from purple to black.
