“Not just words but action” (Geen woorden maar daden) - with this telling Rotterdam-slogan I concluded my presentation and Q&A session today in the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament (Second Chamber), during the #IPKO Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultations : “Moving Forward Together: dealing with the colonial and slavery past. Looking for starting points for new connections and commonality.” A special honor to be invited and to be able to give my extensive view on relations within the Kingdom and the Dutch colonial and slavery past. Grateful, proud, but also spirited to bring about change towards understanding, recognition and dialogue. Enjoyed the inspiring presentation by Valika Smeulders about the intruiging Slavery exhibition in the @rijksmuseum that has been picked up by United Nations in New York in 2023 for a special exhibit. It was a very special moment (personally and professionally) of which I strongly hope that the parliaments of the Netherlands, Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten have been inspired to make progress with the tools and advice given. Let's do this, time is now.
