while the food is unmatched, the real reason we are back in Malaysia is family. :’) when I first heard this song, 1) I was so excited bc chance is making music again and 2) I couldn’t help but think of David’s Gong Gong + PoPo’s home. The context Chance is specifically writing about is unique to his story and cultural context (& hits on important issues), however the additional themes of family sticking together, living together, & the privilege of keeping a property in your family that many can return to stuck with me and all I could picture was this little home in Malaysia. Last summer, David got a call that his grandma had been injured + was hospitalized. The family wasn’t sure if she’d make it. We thank God that she is healing and that we have these precious moments with her. Being back here and seeing how the whole family in the house cares for her has grown my respect and appreciation for them. I love this family! We are staying in David’s childhood home and it currently houses three generations of his family. If you keep the house in the family, you can keep the family in the house. not pictured: time with David’s dad which we treasure so dearly. first half of trip is with David’s moms side of family and second is with his dad + fam. we are beyond grateful to be reunited w/ everyone - across the world 🫰
