Thank you to everyone who came out last weekend to ‘stoop sit’ at “Open Invitation” with me!! Your energy and generosity imbued this public space with a real sense of community and home. 💓 I grew up in KY, and despite living in NYC for 18 yrs, I have never lived in a brownstone so I always dreamed of sharing snacks and stories on a stoop. Getting to welcome familiar faces and meet new ones at our shared stoop was everything I dreamed of and more! 🥰 Later that day, one of my friends was in a store with her kids and they ran into someone they had just met at Open Invitation and stopped to say hi. Afterward, her 6yo said to her, “So the stoop is where you make friends?” 🥹🫶💖 🔜 And I’ll be doing one last ‘stoop sit’ this Sat Oct 29 from 2-4pm in Macri Triangle in Williamsburg, Brooklyn!!! ☀️ (This dog-friendly park is leash optional, so bring your pooches too! 😄🐶) . . . . “Open Invitation” is an interactive public installation that offers my fellow New Yorkers a shared space to relax and gather. Intended to embody the interconnected experience of city living, this hexagonal artwork is part seating structure, and part monument that celebrates community and feeling like you belong. I was inspired by how the city’s iconic brownstone stoops serve as sites for spontaneous social gatherings, so I decided to create a shared stoop for anyone and everyone. It is intended to be open and welcoming from all sides, offering seating in the round. “Open Invitation” is a ‘call to inaction’—an opportunity to take a break from busy city life, slow down, and savor the moment together.
