It is America Recycles Day! This year at the Grand Canyon, our focus was on our switch from plastic water bottles to Aluminum only. In 2022 Delaware North at Grand Canyon switched from selling plastic single-use water bottles to only selling single-use bottled water in aluminum bottles and cans. Why is Aluminum better? Aluminum is infinitely recyclable (meaning it does not lose its quality when recycled, unlike plastic. Almost 75 percent of all the Aluminum ever produced is still in use today! Also, recycling Aluminum saved more the 90% of the energy needed to make new Aluminum. Every time you recycle an aluminum can, you save enough energy to power your TV for 3 hours. Delaware North at Grand Canyon has also implemented a can and bottle take-back program with Pepsi. We collect #1 plastics and Aluminum cans, and Pepsi backhauls them to Phoenix, where they are sold back to the packager and made back into plastic bottles and cans.
