“Being in a male-dominated industry, there are many obstacles women have to face. This is even more relevant when it comes to Camera and Steadicam Operators. It is a very physical and taxing line of work, so of course, it is associated with bigger and stronger men, not "fragile" or "weak" women. But, to break those barriers down and be a woman in that position, a lot of people are naturally shocked by it. I have so many people come up to me and say how they've never met a female Steadicam operator and how great it is to see someone like me in this field! It gives me a boost of confidence and makes me incredibly proud of my accomplishments and dreams. Since I have only been operating for a little over a year, I still have some learning to do, but I'm one more woman that's shaking up this entire industry.” Meet @sabrinamarki. We met Sabrina on set at Casa Caeli. She has been a Steadicam & Camera Operator for 1.5 years now. Originally from NJ, she went to school in Texas to study film and was deciding between LA or NY after graduating. She knew she was going to have a better experience being in NY because it already acted like a second home for her having started her career in the industry in 2017. Working as PAs on big NY commercials, so she already had cultivated a great group of connections that could help her jumpstart her passion once she made the official move there. After graduation, she moved to an apartment in NYC and started working towards her dream of becoming a Steadicam & Camera operator! “Probably my coolest job I worked on was an Adidas Always Original spot! Got to do many crazy and quick moves, but it was totally awesome! That was my first "big" job I got since starting as an operator.
