#FIV22 IN SITU Project N°18 – Gregory Eddi Jones "Promise Land" 🐎 In 1922, the famous poet T.S. Eliot published "The Waste Land", a 433-line poem partly written while he was staying in a hotel in Lausanne. A century later, this central work of modernist poetry inspired @gregoryeddijones to create "Promise Land". The artist browsed online and selected visual and advertising material on various subjects related to the diverse scenes in the poem. He then experimented recomposing analogue images in the same way that T.S. Eliot played with words. The artist altered them digitally several times using Photoshop software and then used water-resistant paper to rework the wet ink by hand. Presented in a one of Vevey’s grand hotels, this installation marks the centenary of this highly significant poem with an immersive experience blending fiction and reality. 🐎 En 1922, le célèbre poète T.S. Eliot publie "The Waste Land", un poème en 433 vers devenu une œuvre fondatrice de la littérature moderne. Ce poème, en partie rédigé par Eliot en séjour dans un hôtel à Lausanne, inspire Gregory Eddi Jones, qui réalise un siècle après "Promise Land". L’artiste s’approprie sur Internet des archives visuelles ou publicitaires aux sujets variés, en lien à la diversité des scènes racontées par le poète. De façon expérimentale, Jones intervient sur les images analogiques comme Eliot joue avec les mots : il les manipule plusieurs fois sur Photoshop et utilise un papier peu absorbant pour retravailler à la main l’encre restée humide. Présentée à la dépendances de l'Hôtel des Trois Couronnes, l’installation célèbre les 100 ans de ce poème majeur en proposant une expérience immersive entre fiction et réalité.
