National Fish and Wildlife Foundation has announced $1.5 million in grants to 8 organizations dedicated to improving the health and resilience of coral reefs in the US and Caribbean. We are honored to be one of these recipients! . CRFTM will utilize this grant to support our initiative to raise and propagate pillar coral (Dendrogyra cylindrus) and star coral (Montastrea cavernosa) and bolster our holding capacity at the Tavernier Nursery by replacing the anchors securing our 500 Coral TreesTM to the ocean floor! . Our boulder coral propagation began with Orbicella spp (star corals) and, using the best practices developed through that work, we began trial propagation techniques for the pillar and great star corals in 2021! With this support, we will continue scaling up our efforts to include all genotypes of both species currently housed in our nurseries and aim to begin outplanting the great star corals on the reef in 2023! .
