14 years ago today, I made the irrational decision to start a women’s lifestyle digital media company despite a lot of people telling me it wasn’t going to work. I had zero experience in media or tech. I blacked out for majority of the first 3 years as it was such a humbling experience. This is a picture of a billboard in Times Square in 2010 before we launched to help garner sign ups for the email newsletter. I called the owner of the billboard company daily and begged them to put it up for a few minutes as we didn’t have any $ to pay for it. We forget a lot of these small early moments that made us learn if it’s not hard, it’s not worth it. Sometimes you need to make your own luck.
