From colourful plates on cheerful pink walls to a whole room lined with beautiful blue tiles from Turkey, Syria and Iran, plus some seriously bold paint choices, the home of Lord Frederick Leighton is pretty spectacular. (and we're not just saying that because he was our President) Built to house his growing collection of art and double up as his studio, Leighton's grand home on the corner of London's Holland Park also served to cement Leighton's status as a leading figure in the art world –and even Queen Victoria visited. It was Queen Victoria who had given Leighton’s artistic career a boost – she purchased the first painting he exhibited in the RA’s Summer Exhibition; ‘Cimabue’s Celebrated Madonna’ (now on display at the @nationalgallery). Leighton was elected President of the Royal Academy in 1878, and remained in this position for 18 years. He was famous for his paintings of historical, mythological and religious subjects. Leighton House Museum is now open after a refurbishment, so you can walk through Leighton's office, studio and living areas, and marvel at his amazing collection yourself. @leightonsambournemuseums #RoyalAcademy #art #london #williammorris #decoration #interior #interiors #inspiration #lordleighton #leightonmusem Images: C Leighton House Museum.
