At Tuesday’s policy meeting, I started off by wishing everyone a happy #HispanicHeritageMonth and took the opportunity to spotlight various humanitarian crises that need amplification. 🌴You might have heard @badbunnypr was in town Wednesday and sold out a 43,000-seat concert at @chasefield. His island of Puerto Rico has also been without power and running water for the last two weeks. Support PR by visiting donationforpuertorico.com 🇮🇷 I also felt a huge responsibility to use my platform to acknowledge the protests happening in Iran right now – and across the world – following the brutal killing of 22-year-old #MahsaAmini by the regime’s “morality police” for not wearing the compulsory hijab correctly. Many more have since been arrested or killed. I will continue to lift the voices of the Iranian people who are risking their lives to fight for basic freedoms and dignity. This Saturday, October 1st at the ASU University Bridge in Tempe, there will be a solidarity rally and memorial vigil starting at 5:30pm. All community members, from all backgrounds, are invited to attend. I’ll be there. (*Video says Sunday but it was moved to Saturday to take part in the Global Day of Action for Iran.)
