“Well, the best and most challenging parts of my job are actually one and the same - access to countless incredible locations! Every day is a totally new place. I’ve worked anywhere and everywhere over the last decade. I’ve run the gamut from freezing in abandoned warehouses with no heat or running water to basking on private islands in the Caribbean. Naturally, productions select locations that are the most visually appealing for their stories, and while the view might be absolutely stunning, more often than not, those selections don’t sound nearly as great. But that’s the fun of it! Figuring out how to capture the best audio possible in any given situation day after day in one of the loudest, most consistently noisy cities in the world.” 

Meet @annonymousz, a freeland production sound mixer who we met on set at Casa Janka. Zach has now lived in NYC for the past 10 years. He was born and raised way upstate in the small college town of Cortland, NY. “So technically, I’m a lifelong New Yorker, although I wouldn’t dare say that to folks who’ve grown up in NYC. I graduated from film school back in 2010, during the fallout of the financial crisis, so it wasn’t the easiest time to try to break into production. I ended up moving to DC after graduation because it was “recession proof,” and found myself working at an Apple Store for 2 years. I managed to save up what I thought was a fair amount of money - it wasn’t - and took that leap of faith. In Sept 2012, I moved to Brooklyn and began freelancing full-time, no safety net. It was absolutely terrifying at the time, but the need to survive, the raw energy of NYC, and my own stubborn tendencies have gotten me to where I am today, a full decade later!”
