The famous ‘firefall’ 🌋 Yosemite National Park has been familiarized to a lot of us for many reasons. For Apple fanatics as a starter, two of the Mac OS’s name are directly derived from the park (Yosemite and El Capitan). Its landscape become the default wallpaper for Apple computers for many years until it was replaced with OS Sierra. Whether you have watched the film ‘Free Solo’ or not, it was influential to say the least. The amount of media attention and coverage that had been brought by the film was sensational and spread its name like a wildfire (sorry California lol). I personally did not watch the film until long after I started climbing regularly but even without watching the movie, I had a good image of what Yosemite is like in my head. Fast forward to the end of last year, me and my friends were “casually” talking about maybe going on a road trip to San Francisco and visiting the park along the way. We live in British Columbia where there’s all kinds of nature and we’re lucky enough to cycle through all four seasons. Therefore I thought we’d be hard to be pleased since the nature here is just amazing. Well, guess that was a wrong assumption and also glad that we’re in wrong lol. The sheer scale of the rocks and mountains made us feel that we’re well beyond pleased by what Yosemite had to offer. The firefall is located on the eastern face of the El Cap and can only be seen during the second half of February. Everyday during that period when the sun is about to set, the sun’s rays hitting the Horsetail waterfall would look as if lava is dripping down on the face of El Cap from the right angle. It was truly magnificent to be able to be there at the right time and witness with my own eyes.
