🗑🌳 🧤Started my Saturday off at the Laveen Community Clean Up with @redeemneighborhoods, Keep Laveen Clean & our Neighborhood Services Department! #PHXD7 We discussed the growing fentanyl crisis impacting kids and adults in the area, and proactive solutions to prevent any more harm in our communities. Since early 2022, I have asked city staff to prioritize Laveen, and in particular: - Contracting youth-focused outreach groups to focus on 51st Avenue & Baseline (also proactive education at our high schools) - Increasing cleanups at our bus stops (now happening every day!) - Increasing coordination between departments (PD, Human Services, Neighborhood Services, etc) and develop a plan dedicated entirely to this intersection/Laveen. My team has also been working to address unsafe roads, meeting with developers to share residents’ priorities for incoming projects along the 202, and we continue to emphasize the need for more retail and green, walkable spaces in our village core. 🎉 Up next: We’re hosting a Restauranteur-tour in Laveen on Oct. 27 to showcase spaces that would be perfect for local, sit-down dining experiences and more.
