Artist Teresa Lawlor told us: "This painting is one of my ‘haven’ series: stylised, imagined, contemporary houses placed in fictitious, isolated landscapes. I started them at the beginning of the COVID lockdowns where they functioned as places of refuge – they have since enabled me to travel to inaccessible places from my studio." OK, we can't go there, but we can appreciate the painting techniques: "For works on paper like this one I use traditional media – mainly watercolour, gouache and inks – in slightly unconventional ways. I use different opacities of paint to produce an image that slowly deepens and comes into focus over time while I am painting. This also allows the viewer to see the different layers / mark making in the finished piece – a sort of archaeology of paint." Swipe to see Teresa working on the next painting in this series!
