I'm probably in my 30's here sitting in the office of High Times magazine in the 1970's. At this time, I made my living as a freelance writer and would sell my articles to magazines. I remember writing letters of proposal to magazine editors hoping they would want to publish my writing. Back in those days, I wrote everything on a manual typewriter. All my early books were actually written on a manual type writer as well- all with 1 finger! I tried to use touch typing, but whenever I had something to write, I would go back to using 1 finger because I was so much faster. This was a time in my life where I never knew where my next check was coming from, but things felt very exciting.
