The heroic human is changing! In earlier times, the heroic clearly resided in the hero, in the protagonist and in the demigod in the form of a courageous and muscular man. Brave, with a fat percentage of five. For the otherwise rather anti-heroic German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, the hero was a man who aspired to become a ‘superior human’ (Übermensch) who’d free himself of earthly trivialities. Nietzsche’s idea was that an Übermensch is not just swept along by life’s currents but effects change in the world. Anyone today who stands up in life and says: No longer like this! Let us change this shit! These people could, with a bit of good will, be seen as the new ‘superior human’. Especially if ‘superior human’ is defined as not being about the self, the ego and the singular pronoun, but that it is instead about working for a cause greater than oneself throughout one’s life. And yes, that is probably one of the more generously anti-fascist interpretations of Nietzsche one can think of. Heroic Bodies continues until October 23 at @rudolphtegners Text by Mathias Kryger Video by Drive Studios #COLLABORATIONS #HeroicBodies #Rudolphtegner #JennaGribbon #AlinaPerez #CecilyBrown #ElmgreenandDragset #SanfordBiggers #Jonathan LyndonChase #HardyHill #NorbertBisky #PaoloSalvador #DanielleMcKinney #SashaGordon #JonnyNegron #DidierWilliam
