As a former community board member, we would debate what deep affordability means with developers and community needs which we didn’t see come to fruition. Western Queens is the 2nd most developed in the entire city. 90% of the units built in my district were market rate. 87% of my residents are renters which 60% of them rent burdened / severely rent burdened. This is the definition of inequity and an accelerator for displacement. We must reform the NYC charter for comprehensive city-wide planning for land use, until then as council member I will prioritize deep affordability, community engagement, community investment, & union labor for my district’s land use. After months of research and socialization - my team and I have launched our D26 Land Use Guiding Principles You can read our Land Use principles on our website where we set our expectations for developers seeking to build here as well as community members who want to have an active role in building and cherishing the community they call home
