Ok, let’s talk about it. I sat with the news of Batgirl being shelved for a bit. I’m a “give them the benefit of the doubt” kinda girl. Plus, I understand this is ultimately a business and many factors are at play. But this one just isn’t sitting right... CEO of Warner Bros Discovery, David Zaslav defends axing Batgirl by saying “we aren’t going to put a movie out unless we believe in it.” However, he doesn’t go into what was actually wrong with the movie. In a statement reported by multiple media sources, a Warner Bros. spokesperson wrote: "The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership's strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max. Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance." So if it wasn’t Leslie’s performance, then what? When movies or shows get shelved “the why” is always all over the news. And with so much money already invested in Batgirl, no solutions were developed to fix the problem(s)?? I mean I do understand that sometimes films just don’t work out, but were there even any attempts to save it? But then... I read Zaslov saying, “our job is to protect the DC brand. And that’s what we’re going to do.” Followed by statements about how “very excited” he is about The Flash when Ezra Miller is facing multiple allegations of abuse and misconduct. And so, I’ll end with this. Create your own projects. Because those in power right now are still not ready to believe in us.
