I’m trying really *really* hard to switch off today, but I keep drifting back to things I have to do in London, and writing I have to finish before I even get back to London. I so often find myself repeating the mantra “I fucking HATE WRITING!” But that’s not true all of the time. It’s just often really *hard* to write. Because unlike when you finish, definitively (subjective, to me), retouching a photograph, it’s still potentially not quite there... But that said, I’m constantly glad I don’t have to ramble incoherent bollocks for UnHerd, Spiked or Substack (all the refuge of the reactionary scoundrel, unpublishable elsewhere). I frequently search for news updates on the revolting transphobia the LGBTQ+ community is facing, and these three websites come up time and time again as vehicles for tin foil hat nutjobs spreading disinformation and being so incredibly angry about people trying to live their lives in a way that has ZERO impact on them. I deleted Twitter some time ago because of them all, but I know they are still out there, shouting with ever diminishing returns into the void... and occasionally grifting money off gullible Mumsnetters to take a progressive organisation or company to court. How sad it must be to live your life so pointlessly angry, while aligning yourself with the evangelical far right who want to ban abortions and take away all the rights you think you are fighting for.
