I’m in profound awe of the women and youth-led protests that have persisted across Iran, in more than 45 cities, for more than two weeks. Over the weekend, half a million people worldwide showed up in solidarity with Iranian women and allies who are demanding basic freedoms and human rights. I was proud to join the rally here in Arizona on Saturday night — thank you so much to everyone who came out to ASU to support. Yesterday, students at Sharif University (where so many of Iran’s brightest minds study) reported that “it was a war zone” as the government’s security forces beat, shot and detained students en masse. They’re doing everything they can to silence young people, arresting and killing hundreds more over the last few weeks in a violent crackdown of the protests. It’s been an incredibly heartbreaking, emotional time, but inspiring to see the unwavering will of the Iranian people in their quest for freedom. Please share and amplify their calls for justice.
