It’s crazy the things Taylor and I have in common, way beyond just both of us being 5’11” and 34 years old 💁🏼‍♀️ But, as I’ve invested this past year to learn all of her discography and her history and what she’s passionate about and why writes the songs she writes, I feel like that’s where our similarities lie the most. Midnights was the album that WRECKED ME. I felt like every song was written from my own life’s perspective, as I too was going through so much heartbreak. Taylor released Midnights when my relationship of 12 years had just ended...when we’d vowed to love each other forever. Midnights was a major part of a long healing process, and I believe that’s what the album was for Taylor too. One of the songs that resonated with me the most was “Mastermind”: “No one wanted to play with me as a little kid So I've been scheming like a criminal ever since To make them love me and make it seem effortless This this the first time I've felt the need to confess And I swear I'm only cryptic and Machiavellian 'cause I care” I knew that Taylor and I shared a similar Mastermind quality, and being okay with being that vulnerable and honest in hopes that others could relate and feel seen and understood. “Mastermind” is the 13th track of the Midnights album and in this last year as I’ve been researching and studying everything I can about Taylor, I’ve had a theory about the 13th track of every album... I believe the 13th tracks of every album are the songs where Taylor has been the most honest and vulnerable and perhaps actually represent her life the most, and I believe the 13th tracks are just her favorites of every album 🥰 So when The Tortured Poets Department album came out, it was as if Taylor took words out of my mouth (of course said much more eloquently). But I’ve related with these 2 eras so much, especially the 13th tracks: “Mastermind” and “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart”. I believe that connecting with these songs and perhaps with Taylor’s more vulnerable side, is the reason why I’ve been able to channel her energy so well in recreating the Eras Tour. We’ve both been doing it with a broken heart 💔 we’ve both been MISERABLE and nobody even knows! But it’s because of the love for her fans and love for people that we keep giving our all. Although I fear I’m coming across so arrogant that in any way I would compare myself to the most respected, successful, talented artist of our time... my hope is to paint the picture that this is not as glamorous as it looks. What I do is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I have given everything I have to this show and this project. So many times I have come off stage and just collapsed and bawled my eyes out 😭 When by the looks of it, I’m having the time of my life, being a real tough kid, but in reality I’m faking it til I make, and still very much healing from the end of a 12-year relationship that was supposed to be forever. Sometimes it’s felt like I’m dying on the inside, but have to get up and keep pushing. But YOU make it worth it. The endless stories of Swifties that knew they’d never get the chance to see the Eras Tour and feel it’s a dream come true to attend our show, or even the ones who did get to go and have expressed how our show feels like they get to experience the same magic and the same feeling again and again... This isn’t just a business venture. It’s not just a good idea. I’m not just trying to capture the Taylor Trend. I am in service of what the Swiftie community needs right now.
