Palliative doesn’t always mean end of life Couple of days of ago I mentioned the word palliative in my stories again and my DM’s went a bit mad with concerns that I am now on end of life care. FAR FROM IT! I have technically been on palliative care since I was diagnosed over 4 years ago. Palliative care is simply a medical caregiving approach where the aim is to maximise quality of life. For cancer patients that may be prescribing meds to help with side effects of treatment, providing mental health support or in my case right now, managing pain. I know it’s a word that has a stigma placed against it but it’s just a word, please don’t be scared by it. Try to change it to supportive instead & see how different that makes you feel, amazing huh! But that’s exactly what palliative means & even in death, the aim of care is to support you through that process as comfortably as possible too, the way I see it, palliative teams are basically people handing out comforting warm hugs 🤗 I hope this helps! Also huge thanks to the RSCH rads team for filming this reel with me earlier! — If you want to find out more, please visit both @mariecurieuk & @macmillancancer who have excellent resources to guide you x 📷 Wearing all @womensbest don’t miss out on this ‘oversized comfort’ collection, link & discount code in my bio ☁️ #palliative #palliativecare #livingwithcancer #radiotherapy #palliativeradiotherapy #bonemets #painrelief #womensbest #ambassador
