This #WorldFoodDay, we’d like to call attention to the 600 million smallholder farmers around the world who work on less than two hectares of land, are estimated to produce 28-31% of total crop production and 30-34% of the global food supply. Despite the worlds immense reliance on smallholder production to feed our growing populations, most smallholder farmers suffer from extreme poverty and food insecurity, produce below their potential, and are unable to directly access formal, high value, markets. The key to feeding our growing planet and empowering local #foodsystems is through putting smallholders first and providing solutions that work in favor of small producers, not against them, through models like Acceso’s that provide seed to market support so that producers are sustainably connected to food systems. #WorldFoodDay2022 #FutureofFood #FoodHeroes
