On September 11th 2001, I was 20 years old, leading a freshman orientation at @risd1877 when I heard the news our country was under attack. We were instructed to walk back to the dorms, with an eery silence in the air, no planes to be seen in the clear blue sky above Providence, RI. We huddled around the only TV in the dorm lounge area. Silent, sobbing. I still remember the faces of my classmates to my left and right. Everyone in shocked disbelief and teary sadness. Here’s to remembering those victims and heroes lost that day, and to creating more connection and belonging in the world.
