In collaboration with designer Yuta Hosokawa’s READYMADE @readymade_official , I made a mods coat. The READYMADE x Takashi Murakami collaboration series has been a lasting project, going on for four years and counting. To complete creating a truly satisfactory object, it takes an enormous amount of time; you can never think of an idea and end up with something exactly as you imagined in just two to three months. At least never in any projects I lead. Yuta Hosokawa is one of the few comrades I have who shares my beliefs in that context. The beauty of the embroidery and the overall high quality aside, the coat is full of elaborate and minute attention to detail, including the original three-dimensional flower-shaped riveted buttons. It frankly moves me. Inside the hook and loop patch on the front stitched with flower hides another sleeping flower. The creative spirit too witty to be merely called playful makes me sigh in admiration. The coat also comes with a removable liner made from vintage sleeping bags; no detail is left to chance. This is surely one of the finest items from READYMADE, the upcycle brand that deconstructs and reconstructs vintage military items to create unique and exceptional products. READYMADE is constantly creating art apparel, and last year, its designer Yuta Hosokawa also made his debut as an artist at my Kaikai Kiki Gallery @kaikaikikigallery . He is also presenting his work in collaboration with Doraemon for the upcoming Roppongi Art Night 2022 @roppongi_art_night_official . I hope you don’t miss his glowing Doraemon piece at Roppongi Art Night.
