2022 has been the year of terrible brand deals and interactions for me. 😅 As I’ve grown my accounts online and accumulated over 260K followers on my different platforms, you would think that would mean I’d get to have a lot of good and genuine brand interactions and partnerships, but that hasn’t been the case! In the case of the story I’m telling in this reel, I recently was contacted by literally one of the biggest, most popular brands in the world. Like not even in the nail polish world, the world world. And they wanted me to make content for them! It was an honor and I was sooo excited to have been offered the opportunity, I wanted to cry! But then it turns out they didn’t really want me as badly as they had originally expressed, and that it was most likely not even them picking me individually to work with. I have more info on my tiktok but basically people have suggested to me that they (big huge most popular brand ever) probably sent out this email to like 100 different creators, then chose which ones they actually wanted to work with from the ones who responded. Which feels scummy and deceiving to me, but who am I to say! I’m just a disposable creator in the eyes of this big brand. 😕 I’ve been feeling very disheartened by the different failed brand partnerships I’ve had happen this year, and how I’ve been used and taken advantage of by brands (cough cough remember my BuzzFeed experience?). Anyways, shoutout to the brands I’ve worked with this year who actually care about creators and collaborating with artists, y’all are the best. And to the brands who have used me or ghosted me, as the great T Swizzle once said, “you’re terrified to look down cause if you dare, you’ll see the glare of everyone you burned just to get there.... Karma is a cat purring in my lap cause it loves me.” 😉 I know in reality these brands won’t be impacted in the slightest by what I’m saying. They won’t be hurt by this little nail artist complaining about their cruddy tactics and manipulation. But I hope the people who I’ve emailed with and interacted with never get to experience a cat purring in their lap cause it loves them. Because that is the worst karma one could have. 🐈
